What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are university trained healthcare professionals with particular expertise in the musculoskeletal system. Osteopaths use hands-on treatment to help to improve joint mobility, relieve muscle tension, increase blood flow and optimise function.

Osteopaths are trained to treat the person, not just the symptom, so they will consider other factors that could be contributing to the problem, including other biological, psychological and social factors.

Often osteopaths will develop a treatment plan that combines manual therapy with advice around exercise, diet and lifestyle.

Osteopathy is a 4 year university degree and is recognised by the NHS as one of the 14 Allied Health Professions (AHPs).
